Yes sad or distressing news really upsets me, especially when it's someone I know.
the positive thing is that my neighbour says she finds it comforting & reassuring to see my "familiar face" (so still invited me over) - even when she had bad things happen that very day.

I understand about hearing sad, distressing news. It can be hard to “shake it off”.
Its good that you have a friendly neighbour to visit.
Mine are too busy, plus I’m never in the garden to see them.
Our yard is almost an acre, so I rarely see anyone.
