Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

I'm glad they've settled @Teej. There seemed to be lots going on inside for you last night.

I was reading and researching personality changes and factors that shape us across our lives. Usually I wake and play on online chatting here, looking up random stuff or pinteresting. Sometimes I sit with a cat and a bean bag and crochet.

Have you got anything on today? Will you be able to find some sleep/rest time?

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

I have group this morning and then I need to go to my parents house for a bit @CheerBear. I’ll be ok. Have you much on?

Did you find anything interesting in your research? I’d love to hear.

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

Oh dear. That's going to be a long day for you then I guess @Teej?

I don't have anything on today. I have to tidy up a little and do the catt call thing, but otherwise it's a quiet day here.

I found a lot about how personality does change. There was a debate about how stable and unchanging core personality is, but more research is showing that we do change 'personality'. Lots on the impact of trauma (fear and stress responses) too. And how 'negative' events tend change us in bigger/more profound ways than 'positive' ones. I'm going to try to bookmark some and add them in to a post.

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

Glad you have a quiet day @CheerBear. I’m really confused about the personality stuff. Sometimes it’s like a small part of me comes back when I least expect it and then it’s gone and this intense overthinking beast has replaced her. This year I made a friend and then destroyed the friendship from being too intense and being over emotional and reactive. It’s just fed all the insecurities and sense of identity more. I wonder how much changes in personality relate to loss of identity too.

It will be interesting to read what you’ve discovered.

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

I think there's little bigger than loss of identity or self @Teej. It would make sense that shifts in personality could come about from that. There's the 'big 5' traits/dimensions (openness, conscientiousness, agreeableness, extraversion and neuroticism) that surely can take a hit with Big Bang events I think (as does my mate Google 😉).

I can see how friendships that turn could further feed insecurity and questions about identity. It would almost become a cycle then maybe.

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

I think Ive replaced everything else with neuroticism @CheerBear. Probably get an A plus in it now :face_with_rolling_eyes:😳. Perhaps google is my best mate these days lol, you don’t need much of a personality or identity to be pals with google 😜🤦‍♀️. On a serious note there is a cycle of fear now with relationships. Big bangs definitely mess with our brains and hearts.

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

Haha @Teej. I'm totally neurotic and (dis)agreeable, and Google is one of my best friends now too. Yay for life changing events :face_with_rolling_eyes:😉

Fear really doesn't do good things to brains and hearts over sustained periods of time. It's going to hurt lots of the parts of us. It makes sense that serious hurt that happens in relationships can impact our ability to engage in them in healthy ways/at all.

It's so hard I get it, but please be kind to you. You are so deserving of the kindness and emapthy you ooze.

I have a sniffly, coughing littlest person I am hoping to get well enough to go to school today and am about to log off and play lunchbox wars with the others now.

❤ to you for being you (whoever/however you are)

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing
