My Drawings- our garden

Re: My Drawings- our garden

Good morning @outlander.

My style is generally Realism.

Realism is a style of creating something that our mind will identify as "real" or "close to real".

It has also been referred to as Photorealism in some of my works.

Photorealism isn't a higher form of realism. It's only about creating things so precisely that they can be confused with a photography.

I also paint in an Impressionist style.

Impressionism captures the impression of sonething through the use of colour, generally small, visible brush strokes, a lack of detail, and the use of light in creating the images.

Graphic art is a category of fine art, graphic art covers a broad range of visual artistic expression, typically two-dimensional, i.e. produced on a flat surface.

You can see that it is possible to develop more than one style @outlander, but drawing or painting is about skill development. Some of that comes about through practice, but it also comes through watching what other artists do and taking note of aspects of their work that appeals to you. It can also be studied through "how-to" books or online tutorials. There are often some great drawing books available through book outlets or shopping centre stalls and newsagents .... particularly ones about drawing animals or fantasy figures that might appeal to you, and they are not expensive. They go through step-by-step to create an image.

They would be a good idea for keeping your sisters busy too, if they enjoy drawing, because it quickly gives you impressive results ..... which is very rewarding for children particularly.

Re: My Drawings- our garden

good morning @Faith-and-Hope

i want to paint like you. i want mine to look more real like yours does, you cant tell the difference between the photo and your painting. thats what i want to strive for but i wont ever be as good as that

im not sure ive ive seen any of your impressionism work.....?

so graphic art is really just a basic form of drawing? or drawings jsut drawn through pencils and outlinings?

i wish i could come and watch you paint, id take so many notes!

i dont think ill ever be a painter though, i cant even work out the water colour pencils for goodness sake!

ive seen those books, they actually frustrate me becasue i dont like drawing through the shapes. i tried to draw a horse with one of those books and it started off with ovals and squares and things for different parts of the body. id prefer to look at a picture and drawing it that way rather than taking those small steps and start by drawing circles.

Re: My Drawings- our garden

You can skip over those stages of circles and ovals and things @outlander, and pick up the image at whatever level you want ..... even the finished product, but they usually give you the black and white image first before they fill it in with colour.

If you want a top with the watercolour pencils, draw in a non-water-soluabke ink pen ..... you know, the Artline ones ...,. Or go over a pencil drawing with it ..... then colour sections with the watercolour pencils, and work the water into it. The ink sketch gives the image it's structure, and it won't mess up with the water.

Just play with it. It will start to become familiar and then move to a more intuitive level as you start to "know" the medium and how it will respond.

Baby steps @outlander ..... like the stepping stones.

Good morning @Former-Member ..... 🤗💕

Re: My Drawings- our garden

@Faith-and-Hope yes just like the stepping stones.

i didnt think of doing that with the pencils and artliners, i think ill be adding those to the list.

i want to get better at drawing, and maybe eventually be able to paint too.

i can see the picture of the other stepping stones you put up to try, i think ill give those ones a try, at least they are still stepping stones right?

how come though i can see the picture like the other steeping stones, i can see it and vision how i want it to come out but as soon as i start putting pencil to paper it never comes out right. is that because i dont have the talent or skill to be able to picture whats in my mind to paper?

Re: My Drawings- our garden

Your mind is trying too hard to control the outcome @outlander. There are ways to break down that mind-hand control ..... loosen it up ..... so that it becomes more spontaneous. One way is to take a small sketch pad, a timer, and give yourself one minute to draw a tree, or a flower, or someone sitting on a chair for instance ..... it can be anything you like ..... and the trick is to try to capture the "essence" of it .....

It's called gesture drawing.

@Faith-and-Hope

oh ok

so instead of trying to draw and control it, jsut let it flow and come to me as i go?

what do you mean by essence?

Re: My Drawings- our garden

i took a look at the you tube clip as well, thanks for showing me that. i wanted to reach through the screen and fix it lol @Faith-and-Hope

Re: My Drawings- our garden

im going to ahve ago at those stones over the weekend @Faith-and-Hope

This is the "essence" of an apple @outlander ..... its most basic form with only enough detail to understand what it is.

Can you see it has been scrawled .... drawn quickly with a lot of scratchy lines, but there is a beauty to it.  If you practice drawing like this for a while here and there - one one minute to "capture" an apple, a banana, a chair, a tree, a sleeping cat .... you will find that the drawings you take your time over gradually develop more towards what you imagine.
