I am assuming you are using an iPad or notebook ?

The seventh icon on the toolbar is a smilie face.  If you click on that it will give you a limited range of icons that include a ❤️ and a series of 🙂😕😄😆 ....

They are slightly different from the ones I have just included.  I am on an iPad and I have added an emoji keyboard (Settings >> General >> Keyboards >> Add keyboard >> Emoji) which I access through the little 🌐 symbol in the lower left of my regular keyboard.  It will flick through any different language keyboards I have there, including emoji as a "language".

I have the same function on my iPhone.
