@Gremlin24 @PeppyPatti Treating yourself with the kindness, love and respect, that you give to others is difficult because we have never been shown how to do it or what it looks like.
As second class citizens, women are socially pressured to be dutiful.
We give until there is nothing left and no one values what we do.
According to multi-verse theory, there should be another me out there. I hope she made different choices for me.
I hope she had an easy life, I hope she made the world 🌍 a better place for women.

@Glisten how very true. We give until we have nothing left to give. We make sure everyone has what they need or want. Everyone's needs come before our own even when it comes at a cost to us.
That's an interesting theory, I hope the same cos I sure as hell haven't made the best choices nor have I had an easy life.

@PeppyPatti if only it was that easy to treat ourselves how we treat others. Unfortunately the hatred i have towards myself prevents me from being kind to myself in any way. I am trying to challenge myself and trying to change my ways but it's a long and slow process.
My first step is learning to accept what others tell me, so when someone says that I'm kind or amazing, trying to accept that. Which is a challenge in itself as my brain goes into defence mode in a split second to avoid being hurt.

Hi @Glisten @Gremlin24 I really resonated with your thoughts on the difficulty of treating ourselves with the same kindness we extend to others. I,t's so true that we often aren't taught how to nurture ourselves, then there's society - especially for women, can make this more of a problem.
People here know of my troubled upbringing - in this site with us older women many would relate to this -
My mum told my brother's they can bring teenage girls back to their bedroom but I was to stay a virgin. There are many worse stories than mine.

The idea of giving until there's nothing left is something many of us can relate to. On this topic, I listen to an Audible book called "Mind Magic" by Dr. James Doty, a neurologist. I actually purchase them for my friends. I listen to it while I'm asleep too. He talks about the importance of being as compassionate and authentic to ourselves as we would be to someone who is ill. Are you able to think like this @Gremlin24 ? It's okay if your not there.....
Think about it – when someone is physically unwell, we naturally offer them understanding, patience, and gentle care. Why shouldn't we extend that same grace to ourselves, especially when we're not strong ? we are all vulnerable here !! It's about recognizing our own vulnerabilities and needs with the same empathy we offer others. It's not about self-referencing or bring self involved but about acknowledging our humanity and realising we deserve kindness. I feel that our stories, at our age the ones we share about our struggles and triumphs, both teach a new way of being empathetic. They offer others a model for self-care and compassion. I believe that you have brought up your adult children like this. This empathy, this shift in how we treat ourselves and each other, is our gift to the world. I too sometimes wonder about those other versions of ourselves. But instead of just hoping for an easier life for her, I hope all versions of us find the strength and wisdom to treat themselves with the kindness they deserve. And I believe that by sharing our stories and supporting each other, we're making this world a better place for all men and women,
