good morning @Faith-and-Hope
i want to paint like you. i want mine to look more real like yours does, you cant tell the difference between the photo and your painting. thats what i want to strive for but i wont ever be as good as that
im not sure ive ive seen any of your impressionism work.....?
so graphic art is really just a basic form of drawing? or drawings jsut drawn through pencils and outlinings?
i wish i could come and watch you paint, id take so many notes!
i dont think ill ever be a painter though, i cant even work out the water colour pencils for goodness sake!
ive seen those books, they actually frustrate me becasue i dont like drawing through the shapes. i tried to draw a horse with one of those books and it started off with ovals and squares and things for different parts of the body. id prefer to look at a picture and drawing it that way rather than taking those small steps and start by drawing circles.

@Faith-and-Hope yes just like the stepping stones.
i didnt think of doing that with the pencils and artliners, i think ill be adding those to the list.
i want to get better at drawing, and maybe eventually be able to paint too.
i can see the picture of the other stepping stones you put up to try, i think ill give those ones a try, at least they are still stepping stones right?
how come though i can see the picture like the other steeping stones, i can see it and vision how i want it to come out but as soon as i start putting pencil to paper it never comes out right. is that because i dont have the talent or skill to be able to picture whats in my mind to paper?

what do you mean by essence?

This is the "essence" of an apple @outlander ..... its most basic form with only enough detail to understand what it is.
Can you see it has been scrawled .... drawn quickly with a lot of scratchy lines, but there is a beauty to it. If you practice drawing like this for a while here and there - one one minute to "capture" an apple, a banana, a chair, a tree, a sleeping cat .... you will find that the drawings you take your time over gradually develop more towards what you imagine.
